Sconex Sticks With High School

Cambridge-based Sconex is looking to make its mark as a social networking site for the high school crowd. Calling themselves “the unofficial web site of your high school,” the company lets students create profiles, blog, search for other students, set up groups for clubs, and create small quizzes. But the web site’s key teen-oriented feature seems to be its “crush finder”.
Sconex aims to create a safer environment than MySpace by requiring new registrants to answer a series of security questions about their school to verify that they’re actual students. The site also relies on community policing by students to remove strangers.
Sconex was acquired by youth-focused online publisher Alloy Media + Marketing in March for $8.7 million, but continues to operate as its own branded site.
