FCC Clears The Air At Logan
November 2nd, 2006 by hubcapper
In a move sure to warm the heart of Boston travelers, the Boston Globe reports that the FCC has ruled that Massport cannot prohibit airlines and independent operators from offering wi-fi services at Logan Airport.
The Massport machine had argued that any alternatives to its high-priced wi-fi offering (”sponsored by the Nokia 770 Internet tablet!”) would pose a public safety hazard. However, the FCC sided with Continental Airlines in its appeal to offer free wireless service in its frequent flyer club area. That alone is not exactly a comprehensive solution, but the ruling does finally open up the potential for competition in the market for wireless access at Logan.
